2016

Checked out London Film and Comic Con on Sunday. It was cool, chilled and a smooth day out. Definitely not as hot, crammed and manic as in 2014. Fun day really! Met everyone I’d planned to (wish I could’ve afforded more), saw the awesome Suicide Squad costumes, and was pretty much done within a couple of hours! Enjoyed meeting all the guests – as brief as it always is – and got a table photo with Aaron Stanford. Here’s the scans of what I came away with on the autograph front 🙂

2014

I had never been to a convention before – I never justified the expense involved in travelling to/from and then of course expenditure inside the convention itself. It was eye opening, not least just the sheer amount of queueing involved. It was an interesting experience to ‘meet people off the telly!’ for certain, and to have a short chat with some of them (particularly long chat with Juliet Landau regarding Justice League!) The first convention I went to was the brand new Newcastle one in March 2014, where I met Danny John Jules. Red Dwarf is a brilliant piece of British comedy and The Cat has some of the greatest lines! Unfortunately I think the organisers underestimated the level of interest, and my two friends who had planned to buy tickets on the door never got in. Definite lesson learned. I didn’t hang about long, because obviously I had friends waiting, and so I met Danny – nice guy! – and left.

I had got my first paying job (student!) over the 2014 summer and was down south at the time. Feeling a little flush, and learning that both of the above friends were attending, I went to a London convention in July. Obviously being London the queue for that one was insane. It was hot inside and just a bit crammed, but I got in fairly early, met my friends on/off as we circulated, and I met more of the cast from some of my favourite entertainment over the years. I met Tyler Mane first – I’ll admit I’m probably just a little obsessed with the X-Men movies more than any other franchise these days, so this was largely my primary motivation for going! He was great, and I love the inscription on the autograph. I met Juliet Landau second, and despite getting her autograph from Buffy (I spent a while being obsessed with Buffy around the turn of the millennia, though I later preferred Angel as a TV series for its darker tone) we had a good chat about Justice League which I grew up with and again, loved. I met Tony Head shortly after, again motivated from my liking of Buffy when I was younger. In the afternoon I met Lena Headey, which was a very busy queue given the immense popularity of Game of Thrones, and I semi-stuttered out that I thought she was absolutely amazing as Cersei. Finally, I met Summer Glau. Firefly had already been and gone when I discovered it but I had seen Serenity at the cinema when it first came out (though confusingly, I saw it before watching Firefly.) Really like that image – used to have it as a poster! – and I love the inscription on this one, too.

These aren’t, and never will be, for sale. Enjoy the pics though! 🙂

And so it begins…

I’ve toyed with the idea of making a blog for ages, and – as you can see – I’ve only bloody gone and finally done it.

There are various topics that I’ve tossed around over the years but this one seems like a natural given. A collection of something at the end of the day is there to be visually enjoyed (by my reckoning) and I don’t exactly keep these mounted on my living room wall. You won’t feel philosophically enlightened wading through the pages/posts/photos, and it is mostly for my own benefit (unashamed bragging of course), but I know that kind of enjoyable envy feeling you can get from looking through this sort of thing, so go forth and peruse at your leisure!

As is, my collection is split between two cities (at polar opposites of the UK no less) so updates might be minimal over the next few weeks until I can meet up with the bulk of my collection back in city #1.
